Alan Ferguson has had a long and distinguished career representing the people ofSouth Australiain the Parliament of Australia.  Hailing from Maitland on the State’sYorke Peninsula, Alan was elected to the Senate in 1992.

Many years of outstanding service to the Parliament of Australia followed, culminating in Alan being elected President of the Senate in August 2007.

Throughout his parliamentary career, Alan earned a reputation as a man who could get things done, not only in policy development but, critically, in fostering the Australian Government’s relationship with its key strategic international partners in trade and commerce, as well as defence and security.

His interest and expertise in international affairs saw him become Chairman of the Senate’s Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, a position he held from 1999 to 2007.  A most prestigious position in the federal parliament, this role, which he discharged with great skill and energy, led to him developing national and international relationships in foreign affairs, defence and trade that are highly strategic.

Alan retired from the Senate in June 2011.

A former President of the South Australian branch of the Liberal Party and a former member of the Liberal Party’s National Executive, Alan is held in the highest regard in politics and business, both nationally and internationally.  His advice is always astute and well-informed.  He is a valuable asset to our firm and assists us to identify opportunities and risks for our clients as they negotiate major contracts, both nationally and internationally, involving both the public and private sectors.
